Cirrus9 (formerly ACHPSM) was founded in 2003 by a group of therapists and substance misuse professionals.

Mission Statement:
To promote the development of complementary healthcare in the UK substance misuse field.

‘Promoting an effective and professionally regulated complementary healthcare practice that is fully integrated within substance misuse treatment services.’

The association’s purposes are:

  • To promote the development of specialist complementary healthcare practice for the treatment of substance misuse.
  • To support the standardisation and regulation of complementary healthcare in the substance misuse field.
  • To further the development of an evidence base for the efficacy of complementary therapies as an adjunct treatment intervention for substance misusers.
  • To support service user demand for ongoing, accessible and affordable complementary health care services.

The association’s objectives are:

  • To provide a forum for the exchange of information and a resource for professionals concerned with complementary healthcare practice in the substance misuse field i.e. therapists, drugs workers, researchers, service providers, policy makers)
  • To hold a register of complementary healthcare practitioners with accredited training in substance misuse.
  • To represent its members’ commitment to improving service delivery to substance misusers at a national/strategic level.
  • Provide a platform for training opportunities for the ongoing development of the competency of complementary healthcare practitioners within the substance misuse field
  • To provide a platform for testimonials, feedback and comments of those who have accessed CT services.
